I am trying to find out any information about a school called Mynderse, that was located the the Central Avenue area. It was still operating in 1942 but closed soon after according to information received from McClung Library. It was located in a area called Pearl Place.Originally the school was named after a man named Mendosy or Mendosie. Some time later it was changed to Mynderse. Later the e was dropped completely. If anyone has any knowledge about this school or where Pearl Place is please let me know.

Google Earth knows about Pearl Place. Just type it in, and it will takes you straight to it. I'm sure Google Maps will do the same thing.

Sorry, can't help with the school.

Contact Jack Neely at Metro Pulse.

His e-mail is next to his byline.
He writes a column called "Secret History" that explores the way things were in Knoxville and has several books out about Knoxville's past. If he can't give you more information, he'll know who can.

Default Mynderse Elementary School, Knoxville

Mynderse Elementary School was located on Pearl Place behind the Sears Dept. Store on N. Central. My Aunt attended that school in the 1890's.
The school closed in 1954 and the students were moved to McCallie Elementary on Gratz Street and some to Brownlow Elementary on Luttrell St. During the summer of 1954 the city made some additions to McCallie to hold the extra students. Four classrooms, four bathrooms, a new cafeteria, and a gymnasium were built and three houses torn down for a playground. Alonzo Alexander was the janitor at Mynderse and he came to McCallie.
