I just want anyone that may be new to the area with kids to know that this is one of the best Children's Hospitals I have ever been in and had to deal with. Our son spend a couple days there and I was totally amazed by how kid friendly every staff member was there. We got in right away and into a treatment room. You do have the typical wait as you would at any hospital for the doctor to come in. I've been in other children's hospitals and I can not say the same for them. They have really gone out to make kids feel comfortable to be there. They have various kid cartoon movies on all the time, as well as regular cable. They have playrooms, interactive computer screens, etc. All the rooms are decorated with kid stuff in them... I was really impressed. We are very fortunate to have such a good hospital in our area. The only downfall was being able to get to the cafeteria to get my own meals. They do have volunteers available but it took awhile for them to get there. I suggested they allow parents to order and pay via phone to have meals sent up to the room. I didn't have a family member to relieve me temporarily, as its just me and my husband here and he had to be at work as much as possible.

My daughter has been in there a few times and everytime we received nothing but the best treatment. You never want you child to be in the hospital but at least you know everyone will be well taken care of!

Now, the Children's Hospital out West (just out patient) I can not say the same for.. it was a nightmare for us there!

Thank you so much for posting this! I'm sorry that your child had to go to the hospital, but I'm grateful that you received such warm and good care at ETCH. Everyone I know who has ever had the unpleasantness of having a child at the hospital has told me pretty much the same things.

I think working in a children's hospital would have to be one of the most rewarding but also one of the saddest jobs in the world.

Thanks again for sharing your experiences with us, and best of luck to you and your family.

TN405 told us today that she works at Children's Hospital so I'm sure she will comment when she see's this post, great that you were treated so well, kids and hospitals are not pleasant usually so its great that he has good memories instead of bad. Hope all is well with him and you now.

And, so far, all the medical personnel as well as state-of-the art therapies that we have encountered. We thought FL was good; no way!

Default Etch

Thanks for your comments on East Tennessee Children's Hospital. If you have to have your child in a hospital it is a great place.
The facility out west is an outpatient surgical center and a rehab center.

I love my work there, even in hectic times. The smiles on the little faces are the best.

I hope your child is feeling better.
