Default Disgusting

Morristown is disgusting. That pretty much sums it up for our family. We are ashamed even to have the "hamblen county" license plate on our car when we leave the county. Everyone here is overweight, mean and uneducated. The schools here are about 2 grades behind and everyone calls themselves christians but are the meanest people i've ever encountered. If you don't believe me go to [URL="http://www.topics.com"]www.topics.com[/URL] and look at the stuff these people talk about. It's horrifying. We are hopefully leaving very soon.

Newbie here....Morristown is a pretty dirty place, very industrial looking. A lot of mexicans have moved into the area due to the farming community Grainger County raising tomatoes. They had a big stink about a company using illegal aliens for that. I go over there once in the while for feed and it seems that many of the places are starting to put their signs and such in spanish. I have never ventured outside the city limits though.

Depends. Are you talkin' about the downtown area? If not, I live in the country in Morristown and we're pretty content. Countywide trash pickup, figured in with your water bill...low taxes....proximity to some pretty big cities in a short period of time....

Yes, there are tons of hispanics here and the city itself, while undergoing a revitalization, still has a ways to go.
We do have two Ingles, two (soon to be three) Food Citys, WalMart, College Square Mall ( I don't go to malls, so I can't comment on what's there), Ross, TJMaxx- several non-fast food restaurants.

Eastgrad- i'm not sure why you're linking to an Indiana news site, but if you meant [domain blocked due to spam].net- well, then you obviously haven't read much into the site- it's nothing but a bunch of immature people (and kids) gossiping. If you're basing the type of person that lives in Hamblen County on THAT site, then perhaps we're better off without you anyway.

Been living in Morristown for about 6 months now, lived in AZ, L.A. and other parts of the world, and all in all M'town isn't all that bad a place to live. We don't live in town directly, on the outskirts but drive through town quite a bit. Yeah, "in town" is older, some areas run down and some areas with a lot of Hispanics, but from what I gather that's pretty much the norm for a lot of towns these days. My wife works in a factory here and she thinks the Hispanics are more friendly than the "locals", she speaks a little Spanish, from our time living in Puerto Rico, which surprises the Latinos because she's Asian.

Would I have moved here on my own just as a place to go if my job hadn't brought me here? Not really, but I'm not looking to leave anytime soon either. Only big thing I can say negative, and this applies to the area in general whether M'town, Knoxville etc. is it's a pain and rather expensive to get anywhere else in the country from here, have to fly through Atlanta or Dallas or Washington, and the added airfare is damn high.

It's all pretty much what you make of it really.

Morristown was able at one time to attract business, but it could not keep them there, local stores have a very hard time in competing, and it isn't odd to see a restaurant come in one month and leave in a couple. Positive note is Walter State community college and Jefferson city is not far down the road (10 min. or so) home of one of the best colleges in TN, that of Carson Newman well recognized in the work arena as a good degree to hire. Although not far from the Smokies (40-50 mile range) don't count on it if planning on a business. Morristown has a few pluses but sadly one of them is the sidewalks and the other is close vicinity to Cherokee Lake and Douglas Lake (Douglas Dam). If commuting to jobs market, Knoxville would perhaps be the best bet, but the economy has crippled a lot in TN although Knox seems to be fairing pretty well. If you want to know more visit [domain blocked due to spam].com and type in 37814 and go to "forums" and view some of the topics there and some of the views of the locals, reconsideration might be needful, but TN has many more cities with opportunity - search them all. As America keeps descending into a third world economy and the looming change to Muslim, nothing is a sure thing in this fair country, anymore.

And again, WHY do people refer to [domain blocked due to spam] as a reliable indicator of people from a specific area? Have y'all even looked at other area's boards? They're ALL like that. Honestly, if [domain blocked due to spam] was indicitive of how people really are, then Jerry Springer would be President and Judge Judy, Vice.

I agree, RRR. [domain blocked due to spam] is full of people that have been tossed out of City-Data, and for very good reasons. I spent a very short period of time reading that stuff and got a headache. Lots of tinfoil-wearers and there conspiracy theories such as the Denver Airport is in the shape of the swastika and there is hidden meaning in crop circles, and almost always coming back to the soon demise of the white male.

I'd stick to getting my opinions on city-data where about 80 percent of the contributors have an average intelligence quotient and could probably pass a psych test. That's minus the people on the political and immigration forums.
