We live in the rural part of Blount County. We have been here for three years. NEVER had a problem with fleas until this year!! I don't know if it had to do with the neigbhor behind us who put thier dog kennel up against our fence. But it was shortly after they moved in we got fleas!! So bad we had to rip carpet up inside our house.
Our kitty is now on Frontline, and flea free....the neigbhors moved and took their dogs. And our house seems to be flea free. Except for a spot in the back yard. If I go out there I get fleas on me. So we are cautious about making sure no fleas on us.

I've heard others say they had a problem with fleas this year. Is it because we were in a drought? I would like to hear if others had this problem and what you did to solve it.

Thanks!!

No fleas here.

We got Harvey the dog from a shelter. They said he had a small flea issue that they cleared up. They found the poor guy wandering around Lonsdale. We put him on Frontline Advantage, or whatever they call it. Haven't had a problem.

Now the cat is on nothing, wanders all over the neighborhood and has never had a flea.

I think it was the neighbor.

Thanks! I think it was the neighbor too! Our kitty never was on anything either, except for a flea collar, and in six years never had a flea. And he goes everywhere! I just found it ironic, soon after the neigbhor moved in behind us, FLEAS, and now thank goodness they are moved out.
Now I just have to figure out how to get rid of the ones in the yard.

I was told cold weather will kill them.....but I don't know when we will ever get cold weather again!!

You need to have the yard sprayed.
Get an exterminator out or spray it youself -- several times. It's very hard to kill fleas outdoors. You have to keep at it as new ones hatch and emerge.
There are some nematodes you can get for natural control.
Google outdoor flea control. You'll find lots of alternatives.

We have two nine year old dogs that we have had since they were puppies. They had HORRIBLE fleas this year. It's the first time they have ever gotten them and we had a hard time getting rid of them, too. What a nightmare!
