Hello. We will be moving into the Knoxville area. I recently read that Knoxville is rated high on the new "Migraine List" which they posted after our decision to move. Does anyone have any opinons about Knoxville areas and migraines? Also, can you recommend a neurologist who specializes in migraines, specifically ATYPICAL? Thanks so much!

Hello, We are in the Tri-Cities and there isn't much difference weather wise between here and Knoxville. My hubby is Migramus. His is associated with weather. Yes he does get quite a few in the spring and fall. I can't convince him to go to one of these specialists but I know there is a reputable one here off Princeton Rd. (I'd have to re look up his name if you are interested) I believe there was one in Knoxville??. Check out this web site: http://www.migraines.org/ I called the number there and they told me about this Dr. in Johnson City.
I know it can be hard to find a good Dr that treats Migraines differently than a bad headache. My frustration is that now that I found one, Hubby won't go! He has dealt with them since he was a child, been through all the tests etc. and won't do it anymore. I can understand his frustration too, but they have come SO FAR in the past 10 years with research and results.
Men! LOL!!! (just kidding guys )

Default migraines

Thank you so much Ms. Mouse. Any names or information would be greatly appreciated. I see that 44 people have read this post already. I'm guessing that many people are affected by these nasty things. As I mentioned, mine are atypical. I have Basilar Artery Migraine Disease. Since I live within an hour of two areas with large air pollution issues, I wonder if it's a contributor to triggers. Also wondering what humidity contributes, as I saw someone wrote on another post that many people around your area have sinus issues. I can't take any triptans with my disease, so it presents a real problem. Not much humidity where we are now, so I wonder if it will be worse, or if that's not really a contributing factor. What do "y'all" think? Please 44 people, your opinions really matter.

Well, I previously wrote that since I've moved here I've had huge migraine and sinus problems. HOWEVER, the whole situation came to a head this week and I found out that it was neither. I've had a huge tooth abscess the entire time! I'm on pain meds and antihistamines now and the situation is improving. Fortunately, I now have dental insurance. Woohoo!

So anything that I said about migraines and sinus problems in Knoxville I now take back!

Default another sufferer

Hi guys, as a lifelong migraine sufferer I had to respond to this post. When we lived in middle Tenn my migraines were the worst. I had at least one attack every week. It wasn't until I moved back to NC that I finally got some relief. After years of seeing various Drs and specialists I lucked up on a Dr here who determined that mine are triggered by atmospheric changes To try and disprove her theory I started keeping a weather log of sorts, but eventually it looked as if I proved her right. Some people can "predict" the weather through the pain in their joints, I use my head

Thanks for the feedback. I hope the tooth is healing well. No pleasant, but at least it's not a long term problem. Would mbmouse mind sending me the name and number of the Dr. on Princeton Rd? We've been looking at the Maryville area and the Jacksboro area. Can anyone offer any opinion about these two downs? I have seen some posts about Maryville, but nothing about Jacksboro. Are there stores and people there, LOL or is it all greenery and beauty? Thanks again.

Helo everyone... I was looking through the posts and noticed a few migraine sufferers in here, so I wanted to share an idea to help.

My name is Merry Cookston and I am 56 years old. I have suffered from migraine headaches since I was in high school. I was on Topamax 2xs a day plus Zomig when the headaches came on which was about 2 to 3 times per week.

I would come home on those headache days to a dark room, not being able to eat or talk and nearly vomiting from pain. At one point, 15 months ago, my husband did have to take me to the hospital because the migraine was so out of control. It took 5 shots to finally knock out the pain.

After 20 years of pain and trips to the ER, I wanted to find a better way to cope. I had a doctor friend refer me to a natural product, which has changed my life. In fact, I have had only 2 migraines in over 15 months.

Over the past couple of months I have been sharing my story with other people who suffer with migraines like me. My son has created a web page for me so I can reach more people who struggle with migraines and feel like they have NO HOPE.

THERE IS HOPE! Please feel free to check out more information about my story and the healthy alternative I have found to significantly help my migraines.
