I've seen school canceled for less snow, sometimes no snow at all, but there really are different road conditions here than up north. I doubt it had anything to do with the inauguration although it certainly was a bonus.

And yes, we definitely have the luxury of erring on the side of caution because we don't have to cancel school that often due to less treacherous weather in our part of the world.

Very well stated Hik....

Decisions may not always be the right on a judgement call of this type.....It is better to be safe than sorry for our children....

Were schools canceled today due to cold or something?

Not here in Knox. I think some of the other counties still had ice on the roads.

Ah, I'm guessing up on the plateau and in the mountains. Haven't had any trouble whatsoever on my commute this week, thank Goodness. Well, other than the 4X4 going 15 mph on 33 Hwy. the other morning.

There was enough salt and sand on Tazewell Pike Tuesday morning to play in!

I remember a few years ago, one of the school superintendents decided not to call off school. A couple high school students slid on ice, got in an accident and died. So yeah, I'm definitely FOR calling off school if it looks like we might need it. I mean, heck, we have them built into the schedule. Why not use them? It's not like we're getting "extra" days off, more than students up north or out west, or anything.

I'm pretty sure that in Mass., right now, they are asking for emergency snow days because they have already run out. I don't ever remember that happening. Winter came early for everyone this year.
