When I used to be in the kitchen cabinet business, several customers mentioned John Boos butcherblock tops.

Hi William,

I saw wooden countertops today in a new warehouse type of store over near the East Town Mall. It's next door to Office Max. I thought of you as soon as I saw them.

Thanks so much, I will probably take a drive out there tomorrow, as I'd like to see what I'm buying in person as opposed to ordering from a website or catalog. Will let you know how it goes. And sorry bout the geocache, I haven't had a chance to run over and check on it. Thanks again!

I checked out johnboos.com, and they do have a great looking selection of products. Thanks for the advice, and if I can't find any good wood in stock locally, will probably be looking at this more. They are a bit pricey for large areas, though it looks worth it. Thanks!

LOE,

Thanks so much for the heads up. I went to Southeastern Salvage, and they have exactly what I was looking for. Will be installing soon, will show the pics. Thanks again for thinking of me when you saw it! That's why this board is so helpful with thoughtful members and posters...

I'm late to chime in, but I once had a butcherblock top on a large kitchen island and it was no trouble at all. I kept it oiled (every few months or so) with a food-safe oil and it looked terrific. Use cutting boards and it will stay beautiful!

Wooden butcher block countertops and white cast iron sink are in!! Will edit this post later with pics once we get everything situated and finish sealing the countertops. Thanks again for the find, much cheaper at the salvage than ordering them, saved about half what they would have cost!

I am waiting with abated breath for the result pics. I'm thinking of doing the same in my kitchen.

Hey guys, well here's the finished results of the butcher block countertop experience. We wanted to keep the look of the 1930's farmhouse intact, so we tried find a counter that matches with the rest of the house's decor and feel. Thanks LOE for hooking me up with Southeast Salvage, where i found a great deal.
