Does anyone know if it is legal in Knox county to sell beer at a drive-thru convienence store? I would like to open a convienence store like this and I would imagine beer sales could be a large part of it if legal. Obviously a beer permit would be neccesary but my question is the legality of the drive-thru and beer together.

I just saw a drive-thru convenience store that sells beer on Gov. John Sevier Highway, so yes I assume it's legal.

JMT beat me to it. The only one I know of is on JSH. I have lived in other areas of the country where these Icehouses are everywhere. I like them and the idea!

Answer for burritobeau! I live in Northern Knoxville after retirement with the wife and not far from Oak Ridge either. We are from Metropolitan Long Island NY, the land of the quick drive thru and have as yet to see one hear. I don't know whether or not it is law or custom. For some reason little changes here until someone does it first and even then it must be "accepted" as normal practice. There are no beverage barns or houses here either, all beer and soda is purchased at the supermarket. Mom and Pop or gourmet restaurants are few and far between but there are multiples of every major chain restaurant imaginable. It's the "WalMart" syndrome, where price and quantity rule the decision. If you are willing to hang it out, you might start a new fad as the faster pace of city type life has definitely creep-ed in. Good Luck!

I gotta laugh. That would mean that South Knoxville has been ahead of the curve and had "city type life" for quite some time. I am a So. Knox fan but so many aren't.

ETA: I am not making fun of your post, just laughing at some of the people around here that look down on their neighbors.
