Ever since I got HD I can't stand to watch TV the old way anymore. It's gotta be in HD for me. The reason it doesn't fit the entire picture is because with out HD the ratio is set to fit an old style TV screen. Usually a flat panel TV will allow you to change the ratio, so it fits the whole screen, but it will stretch the picture and everything will be all out of proportion. People might look a little wider than they're supposed be. For me the correct proportions of the picture is more important than having a picture that fills the whole screen.

With our cable (Comcast) when watching a regular non-HD channel, it will automatically reduce the size and change the ratio of the picture so the proportions are correct. Then when we change it to an HD channel, it automatically blows up the picture to fill the whole screen. Proportions gotta be correct so I'm not watching a distorted picture.

Thumbs up TDS® expands fiber network, brings TDS TV® Fiberville™ concept to Concord and parts of Knoxville

Quote:
Residents now have a new choice when it comes to selecting a TV provider and will gain access to Internet speeds up to 100Mbps.

TDS Telecom this week announced that the ISP will be expanding their existing suite of fiber to the home services into portions of Concord and Knoxville, Tennessee. According to a company press release, the company is taking a few pages from the Google Fiber playbook, announcing something they're calling a "fiberville" initiative. The program is similar to Google's Fiberhood initiative in that it will help generate regional excitement and PR, but it varies significantly from Google's program, which selected the first build locations in Kansas City based on community enthusiasm.

Does anyone in West Knoxville TN have recent experience with TDS HD TV and INTERNET service experience? Fiber optics cable is now available in our area (zip 37922 37934). We are with Charter now, and service by Charter has been very good, but a package offered by TDS which includes land line phone (which we have had with TDS for years) is very attractive $$-wise both short and long term. After the promotional period of 2 years, the total cost would still be less than what we pay Charter now. Thanks for any feedback.
