Hi there, I'm planning on moving to Maryville also from Md (severn)this June. Md is so expensive especially now with o'malley as gov. What were people thinking voting for that loser? I'll be happy to get away and Maryville is looking better and better by the day! Good luck!

Hi all,

My wife and family are considering a move Maryville as one of our top choices. We currently live in the ski mecca of Colorado next to the resorts. Cost of living here is top 10 in the country and so are the housing prices. 65% of the homes are second homes and the population is fairly transient due to the resort economy and the cost of living.

My kids are tired of either having no friends or making new ones every year. The snow is starting to get to me too. Average of 250"+ per year and we haven't been above freezing in over 30 days.

I'm originally from the south and love it there. We have good friends near Nashville and we are looking to move to an area near the mountains.

If you don't mind I have a few questions?

1. How is the wind? is it constant for long periods or only during storms?
2. How far is a decent ski resort? What is it called?
3. How are the bugs? Are they as bad as Little Rock and Houston or less?
4. Is the Real Estate market still growing or has it really slowed down?

Thanks all and hope to hear from you.

Jason, some of the best skiing in the east is in western North Carolina, around Ski Beach or Sugar Mountain. From Knoxville/Maryville it's probably a couple hours.

wvgal1013 we are both self employed and can work from anyware thanks.

jabogitlu thanks we were looking at Ober Gatlinburg. How long does it actually take from Maryville to there?

Our home overlooks Keystone resort in Colorado now and we are only 10-20 minutes from Copper Mountain, Breckenridge, and Vail.

We know we are not going to find that kind of skiing on the east coast. It is not a big priority for us anymore. However we would like occasional day trips to a close by mountain with the kids.

I'll look into Ski Beach and Sugar Mountain they sound interesting.

As stated before the winters are harsh and last 7 months here. Summer is incredible but is short. Fall is incredible when the Aspens turn but only last about a week.

Another main reason for looking to move is we are a bit of a fish out of water here. We are very conservative and very much like being involved with a church and the community. Here community involvement is a bunch of people with money sitting around talking about how to save the planet. Not that is bad but not my cup of tea.

The few churches that are here are so small they really do nothing nor have any programs for our kids.

We also really miss having good friends that are planted in a community. My kids really miss that also.

Where we live is a very special place however it is a vacation mecca. Living here has many pluses but the longer you live here it starts to loose it's specialness. It is best served as a vacation destination or even a place to retire not a permanent home for a family.

Do you live in Maryville? How do you like the area?

Thanks again

Maryville has lovely neighborhoods and homes. Schools are great, and I consider it to be the perfect place to raise a family or to retire. I would love to live there, however; there are not a lot of job opportunities. Homes prices vary a lot depending on where you want to live, however; they are pretty affordable. It is really a nice area! I hope to be able to live there someday! (I would have to commute to work eveyday to Knoxville, though)
That is so right! Im in WPB and the TRAFFIC IS HORRIBLE!!! I live on a street of the older generation and it bites having to get to work on time driving behind someone who is Bingo-bound.
