We are looking for a small country place to buy in Sweetwater, TenMile, Greenback areas -or-in general approx. direction S-SW of Maryville.

Are these good places to live as retirees?

Someone told us to avoid Etowah ('-'?) no explaination .

What about well water ?

I notice a lot of listings say city water Ackkkk !

TIA for any advice.

You'll be hard pressed to find property in this area that doesn't have "city water." With all the agriculture in the area and the use of fertilizers, I'm not sure you'd want to use well water as your only source for drinking water.

I'm not sure why someone told you to avoid Etowah; it's a nice little town right at the foot of the mountains.

But the other areas you mentioned are probably more desirable in that they're closer to a big city (Knoxville). Maryville itself is a really nice town, it's not a bad idea to live close to Maryville. Sweetwater is an adorable little town with a really nice, old, quaint downtown area. It's also located right off I-75 so it's easy to get to.

Default TNX for your input

Thanks JMT.

I was beginning to think I became invisable ... heeeeee !

We will be coming down in a few weeks for a final check on the 2 places we are interested in and make our decision.

And .......... find someone to build us a garage/small barn for our lawn and garden equipment .

Time to relax and enjoy life ( on a retirement budget ) but all I need is the great outdoors, a good roof , big porch , fireplace , nice neighbors , DH and my critters . Don't take much to make me happy
