I was not aware of the bad areas in Knoxville, I have lived here in since 2005 and have friends in what some folks call the " sketchier areas" such as Mechanicsville and good friend lives off of Magnolia. They are african americans and me being white I have never felt threatened at all.

I am from Indianapolis Indiana ( the bad side Lawrence Township) and my husband is from Cincinnati, OH ( East Price Hill, another bad area) so as a couple we may be a little more street smart than normal suburbanites lol. I have heard some horror stories about racial profiling and those types of crimes in Knoxville but I think a lot of it is just media hype because the ongoing murder trials ( I hope they all fry!).

Knoxville is by far the safest city I have ever lived in!
