I owned the property and lived (three years) within the city limits of Newport, never lived in Cosby. Don't know anything about Cosby from personal experience, but the "rumors" then were that people in Cosby and Del Rio liked outsiders even less than those in Newport. Clanish is the word that comes to mind. Keep in mind that this was 1982-1985. Things change and I hope your experience will be very positive.

I would hardly say an impression from 1985 is valid in 2009. No offense.

Default You may

be correct. However, I lived in a neighboring county from 1998 until 2007. The reputation remains the same today as 1985, unemployment remains high during economic peaks, drug busts, **** fighting, and law enforcement corruption are still in the news. It is indeed unfortunate that the activity of the minority of the people cast such negative recognition for that county. But the majority appear to have done little to change it. I know of no other county in E TN that has such a wide-spread on-going negative reputation.

It is one of the most beautiful counties in this region. There are many nice people there. But I would never recommend it as a place for anyone to relocate and I would never, never, ever move back.

That's fine, but I am not living in Newport, I am living in Cosby. They are not one in the same. I have asked now MANY people that live in and out of Newport and Cosby and plenty of law enforcement and they have all said the same thing. Don't live in Newport and Cosby has good people but they pretty much keep to themselves.

Okay, okay we get it- you LOVE Cosby. Maybe you'll live there with no problems for the rest of your time in TN, maybe not. I'm just glad i'm not around to see your rose colored glasses ripped off when the honeymoon period ends. Cosby isn't magically sheltered from Cocke County it IS Cocke County.

Just wondering how you've concluded that at some point this thread became all rumors and hearsay? I mean, the Cocke County/marijuana thing for example is a commonly mentioned thing. I've never witness weed cultivation there myself, but from what I've read in news reports and heard from folks who've lived there, there's quite a bit of growin' going on there.

I'm not at all dogging the area and I couldn't care any less if one smokes marijuana. In fact from trips I took to Asheville I found the place to be gorgeous. There's a small restaurant/gas station called the Pigeon River Smokehouse that we always used to stop at, I believe in Cosby. Good stuff.
