We have gone to DollyWood and had a great time, very nice for family day. We have also gone to Ober Gatlinburg and that's a really nice time for family, but we went in November and February.
Pigeon Forge has a lot of activities as well. Not sure the name of the road, it's the main road through there. I think it was 441. They also has trolleys that run from alot of the hotels to the attractions. On 441 there's quite a bit of things to do within walking distance of some of the hotels.
Everyone that I have talked to have been very friendly. Here a couple links (if I did it right)

I lived in College Station, TX (home of the Aggies) and NEVER had quarrel with anyone, given that I went to UT...just some fun ribbing is all. No hard feelings.

My husband has never met a stranger and has hated it here, too. He's certainly more outgoing than I am, and has encountered a lot of resentment and hostillity because he's from TX.
No matter how many times it is stated, and advised against, there are always going to be people who simply love to refer to their former home and ways of doing things, and who will not refrain from complaining about their new location. That creates friction, but for those people who do the complaining, it is a moot point. That attitude will never be overcome. It just goes with many segments of U.S. society. Many people in this country tend to be culture-centric.................their culture. Just deal with it by ignoring it.

The Knoxville zoo is a great day for kids of all ages. I still take my teenage boys and I think hubby and I have just as much of a good time there as they do and they love it.
Hour or so drive to the Smokies area and you have all kinds of trail hiking, creeks to rock hop in areas to picnic at.
It is kinda hard to be board and not find things for families all over the east TN area.
Hope that helps.

I want to go to Dollywood soooo badly! It's been so long since I was at a theme park of any kind...I know my kids would be beside themselves!

A zoo is great...we don't have one in Wyoming ( we have to travel to Denver for that) but we had one in Houston that we loved to frequent.

Tell me about Knoxville summers...

It's warmer than winter and no chance of snow, tree leaves are green,

Sorry couldn't resist hehehehehhee

But I do need to ask...what do you want to know about the summers in Knoxville? Are you asking weather wise, or difference of things to do? Or are there more tourists in the area??/ Sorry, a little confused by that request.

I'm curious about the climate...we're from Houston originally and used to brutal summers....super hot with oppressive humidity. I like warmth and even like hot, but not oppressive hot.

What about sports for the kids, i.e softball, soccer, etc. We have 2 softball players....

Well, you're used to the color orange, and I assume you're great at shouting "Go UT!", so you're already halfway there.
How do you feel about sweet tea, grits, and being called "hon"?

I'll throw in a link to Ijams too. I haven't had young kids in years, but it's a neat place, my grown up kids and I enjoyed it, and it seems like a great place for little ones too. Ijams Nature Center - Visit - Home (http://www.ijams.org/visit/ - broken link)

Heck, I'd settle just to meet Dolly Parton once in person, I hear she's a real corker and I enjoy her music.
