I'm debating fixing up my old car (95 corolla) or buy a "new" used car (its at the point now that I'd be putting more $ into it than its actually worth to fix it).

Unfortunately, my poor credit rating would be an issue I know, though I do have a decent paying job now and can easily make the payments. I'm not looking for a new or even recent model used car, something older is fine as long as it runs and won't break down on me every month! Looking to keep it to around $5000-7000, as I'd like to pay it off sooner rather than later.

Has anyone ever dealt with any of the 'buy here pay here' type places in this area? Or know of any used car dealers that will work with you if you can put down $$ on a car and make decent payments?

Thanks!

I would say that several (used) car dealers would work with you, at a price of course. Read that price as a high interest rate. You might try some of the nicer looking used car lots on Kingston Pike, or you might even try some of the new car dealers, since some of them might be willing to work with you since some of them are hurting for sales.
