In my view it would be nice if it had an actual, you know, downtown - like Dandrige for example. But you can't have everything.

Trash is about $60 every 3 months. But there are different trash companies. And my husband only got that rate when he asked about a discount or a special....they said if we stay with them for 2 years, this would be our price (we paid more initially). They come once a week.

The other stuff depends what part of Seymour you're in. We use SCUD for gas, KUB for electric, KCUD for water. Fire department requests $150 donation per year. I don't know anyone with a well; I haven't seen any sewers. This is septic and culvert city!

Default Tell me about Seymour

Hi All,

Looking for an area in East Tennessee where my husband and I could purchase a decent house on a minimum of 5 acres so we can grow our own veggies, fruits and maybe raise some chickens in the future. We prefer to be on well and septic and have few or no restrictions. Not quite homesteading but would like to be self sufficient as much as possible. My husband will be retired or semi retired. I am a Realtor and may get my license there. We currently live in a bedroom community of 5000 people and would like something like that in TN. 20-30 minute drive to a city or town with stores is desired.
We visited last year and will be down again this week. Our price range is $200k or less. We are looking for flat, sloping or gently rolling (no cliffs) sort of land. Not looking for any mountain homes.
If Seymour doesn't fit the bill, can you tell me any other towns that might?
Thanks in advance for all your help!

yeah, Seymour is good for that... I live in Seymour so if you have more specific questions, just ask. I know someone in Blaine trying to sell his house with 9 acres...I will ask him the asking price. If it's in your budget I'll send you a DM.

Seymour and Blaine would equally fit the bill. I think Seymour might have a few more amenities or closer shopping. You definitely can find what you are seeking for your price range though. Good luck!

Good choice and will find the Seymor area will have plenty of places to choose from and only probably not as populated as you might like.

Are there a lot of small towns like Seymour that have areas where there are no restrictions? We also liked Maryville and Friendsville. It was hard coming back to Wisconsin. It is actually snowing today. Can't wait to move to TN!

Wouldn't that be every little town on the outskirts of Knoxville? I'm not sure what kind of restrictions you mean.

I don't either. Even Knoxville allows chickens. As far as I know, you can have chickens in Knox County, too. This area isn't big on regulations!
