We are looking into relocating to the Knoxville area from Connecticut. We are looking for:

1) Hopspital Employment, husband is retired Navy, working as a Physician Assistant.

2) Family oriented neighborhood.

3) good school system

I need to be close to shopping, (earth fare). Newer housing, but not a congested neighborhood. We don't like the houses on top of each other. So I guess, somewhere in between a downtown "city" and the "country" .

What areas should we look in, for a nice in-between?
Appreciate the help.

I'm from Mass., but lived on the CT border. My dad retired from a CT company and my mother from the state of CT.

There are so many hospitals here, that you shouldn't have a difficult time finding employment, the school system is very good and there are lots and lots of neighborhoods like that. Most newer housing would put you out in Farragut and lots and lots of newer housing from there towards Knoxville. Farragut and West Knoxville tend to be a bit more expensive, but compared to the prices you are used to, it will seem like a steal.

Some of our hospitals:

Parkwest
Fort Sanders
Mercy
Methodist
Children's

The entire city is family-orientated.

More established neighborhoods in West Hills or even the Northshore area might be of interest. There are a number of newer (less than 15 years old) developments around the Northshore area and also towards Farragut. If you end up at a hospital farther west, there are many more rural options, including larger lot type developments towards Lenoir City/etc. (but schools can be an issue).

Welcome to Knoxville. Some of the things you are looking for need further definition. For example, there are two Earth Fares in Knoxville. One in the Bearden Area and one in Farragut. Now, which one of these would work depends on your definition of a congested neighborhood. Some think that Farragut is congested. Some think that Bearden is congested. Then there is outer reaches of Knoxville. Within 20 minutes you can be in the "country."

My suggestion: Find yourself a real estate agent to help you sort out your requirements and help you meet your needs.

Knoxville is a great place to live. I think you will enjoy living here.
