Interested in neighborhoods where homes are in the $200,000 range. Good schools for elementary students. We would like family friendly area not too far from the airport. Is this possible?

West Knoxville, areas of south Knoxville, and Maryville are all convenient to the airport.

Its more than possible but then again what is NEAR to you I am 15min from the airport and I fly a lot. It all depends. You don't wanna be TOO close to an airport either.

Unless you are an aviation junkie like me and enjoy the thought of KC-135's going in one ear and out the other on a consistent basis along with RJ's, the pretty occasional T-45's T-38's and the occasional F-16's and 18's

You are so right! I personally LOVE airports. When I was a teenager my family lived in Hong Kong, and my school was directly in the flight path of the old HK airport. More than once my teachers would have to tell me to quit staring out the window at all the planes and to pay attention. My brother and I used to go hang out in the airport. We bought a radio which allowed us to hear the control tower. We'd sit at the observation deck, listen to the control tower and watch all those planes from all over the world take off and land at old Kai Tak Airport. (Side note: my brother went on to become an air traffic controler and has his pilot's license. I went on to become a boring professor.)

If Knoxville had a big airport with lots of different airlines, I'd be first in line to buy property as close to the flight path as possible, and I'd spend all my free time sitting on my deck watching the planes take off and land. But, as it stands, our little airport is not a busy one, and most of the planes are little regional jets or private planes which don't make a whole lot of noise and don't really go anywhere interesting. There are some really, really nice homes immediately around the airport which I think speaks volumes about how quiet it is compared to other, larger airports.

Wasn't the old HK airport called Kai-Tak or something similar? I flew into that airport a couple of times and thought it was nice, actually about as nice as the new airport which I have also flown into.
