OMG EWW my cat found a house centipede on the wall. Being from arizona I've never seen one of these but I am officially grossed out. YUCK YUCK YUCK. Are these harmful to my pets and do I need to do a major spray in and outside my house?

Thanks,
Jeanie

I never heard of a house centipede, so I Googled it just now. GROSS!
I'm planning to move from Tampa to Knoxville this year, and I was hoping to move away from the big creepy bugs! I hope those critters aren't common to the Knoxville area!

It doesn't matter where you move. There's going to be bugs, big, small, creepy, gross and all kinds. Some will have 2 legs some will have more. Good luck in finding that bugfree paradise.

House Centipede, Scutigera coleopterata

Habitat: Though house centipedes are found both indoors and outdoors it is the occasional one on the bathroom or bedroom wall, or the one accidentally trapped in the bathtub, sink, or lavatory that causes the most concern. Centipedes prefer to live in damp portions of basements, closets, bathrooms, unexcavated areas under the house and beneath the bark of firewood stored indoors. House centipedes feed on small insects, insect larvae, and on spiders. Thus they are beneficial, though most homeowners take a different point-of-view and consider them a nuisance.
Description: The body is 1 to 1-1/2 inch long, but its 15 pairs of legs make it appear to seem much larger. The body is grayish-yellow with 3 dark stripes extending along the full length of the back. The legs are long in proportion to the body size, and they have alternate light and dark bands running around them.

House Centipede
Bite: Technically, the house centipede could bite, but it is considered harmless to people.
Control: Please contact your local county extension office for current information.

From the same site:

House centipedes feed on silverfish, firebrats, carpet beetle larvae, cockroaches, spiders and other small arthropods. If house centipedes are seen frequently, this indicates that some prey arthropod is in abundance, and may signify a greater problem then the presence of the centipedes.

Emphasis on the above poster's bolded part.

If you have House Centipedes, you have better things to worry about
