My wife and are thinking of moving to Knoxville. I am also considering going back to school so I would like to live reasonably close to the university. Any suggestions?

Describe your preferred living situation and price range. What's your definition of reasonably close?

Hey Barkeep, several and too many to name, until you give us your price and time for travel. Starting in west, at Cedar Bluff, you can rent at Warren House on a month to month, furnished for around 550 per month and thats about the lowest I have found for clients. From there , is around an easy 15 to 20 minute commute. Good luck, and happy hunting.

Thanks for the info. I am looking at around that price range but would be willing to go up to 650.
When looking to rent what neighborhoods should I avoid?
any help is appreciated. Oh also about a 15 min commute would be fine.

2 bedroom 2 bathroom is preferred(but not required) and no more than $650 a month.
Reasonably close 20 min drive or less on a normal day.
Thanks

No more than $650 will not get you one of the fancier, popular apartment complexes.

The best I can tell you, with that price point, is a nice, quiet and small complex near me.

All near campus and walking distance: Newer: Crown at Campus Pointe, Knoxville Place-Bridgecourt is older, but cheaper-and more of walking distance.

Knoxville Apartment Guide - Find Apartments in Knoxville, TN
Looks like for a 2 BR and $650 budget, your best bet is
Knoxville Place (Commons) and it's walking distance. I would scout the area before deciding on an apartment because some will call themselves within "walking distance" where in reality, you're hiking a couple miles to class every day.

Look in the Bearden area, particularly off Sutherland Avenue. Lots of grad students living there, particularly international students. Good markets, easy commute, good bus service, even greenways to take you to campus.
You'll find lots in your budget there. There are some nice apartments at Crestridge on top of the hill. Also Greentree Village is in that area.
If you're in town, drive down Gleason Road from Morrell Road (West Town Mall) to Ebenezer. There are all sorts of condos and small apartment buildings with For Rent signs out. Very convenient area, easy access to I-40 and about 10 minutes to campus.

I suggest you live in West Knoxville around Bearden like knoxgarden suggested. There's a place by West Town mall called 'The Grove', it's kind of expensive but well-kept.

It's an easy drive to campus and much nicer than anything you'll find out east.
