Excuse our ignorance but what is available in terms of television & broadband in Las Cruces? Are both cable and satellite available and if so, who are the providers, and more importantly who do you recommend and why.
Same question in respect of the broadband providers.
I swear by DirectTV. For one I'm a Redskin's fan and they show nothing but Cowpuke (sorry!) games on sunday here so I need the Sunday Ticket. But their customer service is outstanding and they give me freebies every year (this year I get Superfan for free). I had horrible troubles with Comcast when I used to have (it's available with cable modem internet connection throughout town) so I'll never use them again. They are also quite frequently lambasted in the local paper "sound-off" section by existing customers for bad signals and high rates. Don't know much about DishTV but one friend I know who has it isn't happy.
I use verizon wireless for internet, but that's mainly for work and is a little expensive. There are all kinds of other choices from cable to DSL. Hope that's helpful!
I have Comcast for internet and Dish Network for TV. Comcast is okay, though nowhere as fast as Optimum Online back in NY/NJ. The only real downside is that they don't offer VoIP in my area (yet), so I am currently using Qwest for local and LD. Hate them.
I love Dish Network - I get all the local El Paso stations and have the option of getting some of the locals from back east (WPIX, etc.) as well as channels I've never had on cable (Tennis, BBCAmerica, sleuth...)
I also love that I can run two TVs off of one box, without having to watch the same channel in different rooms. Love their DVR too, that also lets you record on one channel and watch another and/or record two different shows on the DVR at the same time.
Both the cable and satellite services have been very reliable here. I was concerned about the satellite with the winds, but, in six months I only lost the signal once, for about two minutes.
Just moved here but am planning on using Comcast for both Internet and TV. There's really no other choice for Internet in the subdivision I'm in (Vista De La Montana). The satellite providers do not offer the networks in HDTV yet but Comcast does. So, I'm going to ride the intro rate for 6 mo's with Comcast and hope that the satellite providers finally recognize that El Paso and Las Cruces may also want HDTV.
I suppose there may be wireless internet offerings but Qwest isn't offering DSL service this far out.

I am in High Range and I have HDTV via Dish Network. I don't know that all of the local networks have HD versions since I hardly ever watch 'network' TV, but I do have multiple versions of a lot of channels (almost all the standard cable networks e.g. A&E, USA, HGTV, TLC) and some HD channels that have no standard equivalents (e.g. HDNET) as they just added a bunch of new HD channels. It's not cheap, but, the selection is awesome.
I'm surprised that the locals would be available in HD via antenna because of the mountains between Las Cruces and El Paso. I'll look into that again when I get settled since that's how I was picking them up in Michigan.
Dish and DirecTV have more HD than Comcast but they don't have the local networks in HD unless you can get them via OTA. Please don't think I'm an advocate for Comcast. I've had a lot of problems with them in MI and expect to have problems here in Las Cruces. They're just the best option for HSI and I figured I'd try them for the introductory low rate period for TV service since they do carry the channels which I primarily watch.

There's no mountain between EP and LC? At least the west side of EP. The antennas for the EP stations are on top of the Franklins. I have direct line of site and didn't even have to use one of those really big rooftops...it's just a little antenna. I've had direct for 6 years now and couldn't be happier.

Finally someone else in NM that doesn't like that football team either.
