I'm moving to Las Cruces for a job that is close to NMSU. I would like to live in a studio/1 bedroom apartment in a nice area.
Any suggestions on what areas should I be looking at? I don't mind driving to work. My top priority is that the area is nice and decent. Any suggestions on the good areas/ communities where I should be looking.
Thanks people.

I would recommend you look at places east of I-25 (aka US 85) and north of E Lohmnan Ave (I think this is basically the same as the Sonoma Ranch area others have already mentioned). It is in the desert, but it seems to be the nicest/safest area of Las Cruces. Also, there are plenty of stores/restaurants in this area. I think that for a young doctor it would be the best location, but, yes, Mesilla is also a pretty nice area, as well as a little bit greener.

There have been a number of murders, home invasions and assaults. I don't know if it's so much unsafe areas though -- criminals can certainly easily get around and aren't confined to any particular areas.

Yes, such things have happened as they do in every city. Still, I'm not aware of any areas of Las Cruces that are generally considered unsafe.
