Looks like if the federal stimulus infrastructure plan is passed then I-10 from Las Cruces to El Paso will be widen from 2 lanes to 3 lanes in each direction.
Well folks. It's going to pretty suck major balls to drive from Cruces to El Paso for at least 5 years. The highway 70 project seemed to take that long and that was a nightmare. Oh well. I really want to move back to Cruces, too. Hopefully I find a job away from El Paso.

There is always a silver lining though. For instance, you can take Rt 28 to Anthony, then hop on Doniphan down to Canutillo. That's a much more picturesque drive, anyway!
On the radio they were saying the project would take more like 2 years.
Well, I'm a contract administrator for the federal government who has adminstered on large paving jobs and this won't take two years. I'd say more like 4. Here's to hoping that it's that quick but weather plays a huge role in this and if there's a very wet season, forget about it. Add to the weather the fact that some contractors are slower than molasses, well, you get the picture.
Back in 2000 they widened U.S. 54 from El Paso (TX state line) to Alamogordo about 65 miles from 2 to 4 lanes and that took 2 years to build.
Let's hope the same contractor is awarded the project.
