Great news if you live near the University! Zeffiros/Popular Bakery, the source of the only seriously good bread in Las Cruces and a heck of a good wood fired pizza, is opening a second location. Sounds like it'll be a bit different than the original downtown, but it's closer to my house so I'm a happy camper.
They've only been open a year and are doing very well. Congrats to the owners, for putting out a quality product and for showing other restaurant operators in LC that all you really need to do is produce good, reliable quality to do well.
And they don't sell enchiladas....

My source of New York style pizza, Eddie's, has evidently closed. That is a shame, because I really enjoyed his style pies. So did my kids. I wish Zeffiro good luck, but that's not my idea of pizza. Eddie's was.

Zeffiro's pizza is good for what it is, but I agree, it's not my definition of "real" pizza. I'm glad they are doing well, though.

I look forward to seeing what Zeffiro's New York style pizza is like.

So what is "real" pizza? This isn't a smarta** question. I'm honestly curious if it's possible to describe.

I doubt that I've ever had real pizza, since my experience is limited to chains and a few small mom and pops!

I think "real" pizza is probably whatever you grew up with!

In my estimation, this is real pizza:

But as Lawmom said, you grow up with it: someone from Chicago would very much disagree with me.

So true. I like Uno pizza once in a while, partly 'cause it is the only place I can get anchovies here, but, deep dish is not 'real' pizza to me either.

See, that pizza looks good except it's burnt. And I do like Uno's deep dish -- how can't you? It's got your fat content for the year in there.

It does look tasty, other than being burned around the edges!

I hate deep dish pizza! The thinner and crispier the crust, the better!
