Well, I normally speak in the Albuquerque forum, however, looking at RoadRUNNER Transit's 5-year strategic plan, it looks like they are looking to purchase hybrid buses. It's not exactly a matter of if, but when.
It looks like they will become the second of the big four New Mexico public transit authorities (ABQ RIDE, RoadRUNNER Transit, Santa Fe Trails, and Pecos Trails Transit) to operate hybrid buses, ABQ RIDE being the first.
I think that a possible idea for RoadRUNNER Transit would be to piggyback on a few of ABQ RIDE's 68 options for New Flyer DE40LFR diesel-electric hybrid buses. This could save RoadRUNNER Transit a lot of money, and I am sure ABQ RIDE will allow it, as Boston MBTA is piggybacking on 25 of ABQ RIDE's 94 New Flyer DE60LFR articulated hybrid bus options. Considering the small number of buses that RoadRUNNER Transit is likely to purchase, I think this would be the best option for them.
