I was in a car accident today, and my passenger doors are smashed in, but the car is driveable. I drove my car home without a problem

I filed a claim with my insurance company today. I was told I have a $500 deductible, Im no expert but I know the damage is FAR MORE than $500. And thats $500 i dont have. My father told me if I went to the right body shop that they'd be willing to work with me if I dont have the money

Anybody know any good body shops who might be willing to work with me in getting my car fixed?

I assume you weren't hurt. Glad to know that. What did your insurance company tell you re getting estimates for the repair?

Did the other driver have insurance? Did you exchange info? Will there be a police report of the accident?

The insurance company will usually have an adjustor look at your car to determine extent of damage.

Ask about rental car coverage while your car is in the shop. You still need transportation to and from work.

I had some paint work done this week at One Day Paint on Spring Mountain, just west of Arville. It's also a body shop. They gave me an estimate of $500 less than one of their competitors, and they did a good job.

I'm not sure how they'd be with body work, Davie, but I was pleased with the paint work they did.

Good luck with everything Davie. I know how upsetting it is to be in a car wreck. I have been in two so far. Both times the other driver ran a red light. My car was totaled on the first one and the other driver had no insurance. Don't let this get you down.

Davie, whatever you do DON'T go to meet a GEICO adjuster before you do some legwork on your own. Why? They'll look at your car & estimate the minimum, trying to lowball you & minimize their cost.

What should you do? Be proactive - go to a few highly respected (i.e. not cheap) body shops & get estimates to get your car fixed. Make sure they cover everything & don't cut corners. Now, (most expensive) estimates in hand you can go to your insurance (GEICO) & say "Here's what it'll cost to fix my car." They'll still probably go through their own estimate process, but at least you've given them a baseline so they can't try to shortchange you. At that point, they'll probably give you a check & let you know if additional work needs to be authorized the body shop can contact them directly. Hopefully, you'll find a body shop that can do the (quality) work for less than the amount of the check they give you.

Hopefully it goes without saying that, while you need to look out for yourself, you also want to be careful to not commit insurance fraud. (i.e. Don't lie to try to get work done not related to the accident, that type of stuff.)

Being proactive & taking initiative is probably the best way for you to get a favorable outcome from all this stuff. Good luck.
