What's the order of things when you register your car here?

I'm confused because you have to have insurance to register your car.......... But they won't insure you till the car is registered. I think you have to do the smog thing first?

My old insurance expires on 7/20 so I need to take care of this soon.

Thanks!

I'm confused. You have a car that's already insured (expires 7/20), right? Go for the smog then take it to DMV for registration.

It is insurance then smog then register. Normally you just renew your insurance which requires nothing more than paying money.

Bad things happen only when you don't renew or replace your insurance.

Maybe the insurance is not in his name. Or does that matter?

You can insure a car Sitting on blocks in your back yard that doesn't run.

In other words... Insurance, smog, register

When I moved here from CA last year, I took my vehicles to get smogged and don't recall them asking for anything unusual even though they still were registered in CA. Then I called my insurance company and told them I want my vehicles insured in NV on specific date. Proof of insurance cards were emailed and I took everything required to DMV to complete the registration.

Just yesterday, I just took care of my registration renewal at a smog station after smog inspection was complete. The one place asked to see my current registration and the other got everything they needed with a scan of the door panel. Neither asked to see proof of insurance - I think that may be verified electronically somehow during the renewal process but not 100% sure. No direct DMV involvement - pretty simple process.

Depends on the value of the vehicle. There's a registration fee estimator here: https://dmvapp.nv.gov/dmv/vr/vr_esti...tioninput.aspx

My car is 2004. Obviously It can vary widely but they charged me approximately $200. It is based on the value as others have said.
