I prefer the condos, even the conversions, over the apartments for that reason. A condo renter is simply in better shape. Better a little smaller condo. You can get a reasonable condo below 800 and a reasonable house at about 1100. Maybe even a little less if no rugrats are involved.
I (gasp) agree with olecapt. But olecapt, how is resale of condos (in a normal market)? I agree it would be better than renting an apartment. Last time we rented a house it was through Lewis Homes. I think they have repos that they rent, or did at that times. This one was at Washington and Torrey Pines on Grey Eagle. It was a good deal and much better than apartment living. But we rented month to month with the idea of buying within six months to a year. Ended up taking us three years to agree on a house we liked.

Awesome, thats right where I wan't to be $1000 to $1400 a month renting a house. We looked in Summerlin and Henderson which seems to be the craze, and we found 2 very nice houses, I just dodnt know if the market was increasing or they still were cheap. Thanks for the info!

Without kids stay away from Henderson or Summerlin. Go where the flippers bought. You can get close to a palace for $1250 in the North NW or SW.

They still rent out, there's an entire block of homes that they own on Smoke Ranch that they just rent out, you can check them out at Lewis Community Developers - Residential & Commercial Real Estate Developers
we almost called them up, but we didn't want to live with a driveway off a major street...

Signature Homes also has started building lease-to-own communities, TOWN is an example of that...
