Most people are going to discount what I am going to say as it is anecdotal evidence, but here goes. I gave up gambling not to long ago as I see the casinos as thieves. My buddies have also done the same. I have been noticing recently that the strip looks like it did back in 2006 when I got here. It is packed, too packed if you ask me. However, I have a few dealers who I consider somewhat friends at the New York New York Casino. They have always told me they have even been doing well. Now they are telling me they are doing worse than they ever have now. They told me it may be packed, but people are not gambling like they used too. I personally think people are starting to think like me.

After reading that article I 100% understand why its necessary to implode an old casino/hotel before building a new one.

Especially after reading this...

"Most analysts are cautious toward the Strip, which will add 2,000 hotel rooms in December when the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas opens."
The current hotels are struggling to to keep full. Adding 2,000 more rooms wont help.

The payouts are horrendous on any electronic machine. Although more convenient, removing coin operated machines was a bad idea I believe. It had a lot of charm to it. It's difficult to explain but using those pieces of paper in the machines may make people lose their money faster but in the long run people gamble less as it tends to hit them all at once.

Not all the places just take your money. There are some casino's with good paying slots, you just have to find them. Some of the more divey places also have better machines. Don't know why. And then some of the better places like Venetian also have good machines.

Well, "good paying" is relative and not what it used to be. In order to actually make any money off any of those machines without blind luck you will need perfect strategy,a very large bankroll and hours of your time. Even the 99% payout machines just mean you are destined to lose 1% of your money each hour. But yes, you are correct that the local casinos have better machines even if they are sparse and you need a treasure map to find them.

I never need a large bankroll when playing in "those casino's" to get money back. I am not trying to get thousands, more like $25-$50 at a time. When putting in a small bet like a nickel, a payout of $50 is great.
I have done that so many times in my life, in Las Vegas, North Las Vegas, Henderson, Mesquite.

"Resorts nationwide have jumped on the resort fee bandwagon as a relatively painless way to boost revenue in the name of convenience. In fact, Harrah’s Entertainment — which has denounced the mandatory charges — estimates Las Vegas visitors spent more than $12 million in June alone for bundled amenities such as local calls and gym access.
The company capitalized on its “no resort fee” policy last month by launching a Facebook page that invites consumers to “join the fight against Las Vegas resort fees” and a hotel booking website for the company’s Las Vegas properties called vegasnoresortfees.com, which the company hopes will pop up when consumers surf the Net for hotels that don’t charge the fees."
