Im thinking of flying out from ohio to take the LVMPD test on Tuesday july tenth. If its very hard to get the job I wont waste the money. I am a pre-law student and I am in good shape and have never been arrested or have done any drugs so I wont have a problem with passing the tests. If anyone has any advice it will be much appreciated.

Go to Officer.com and go in under forums. If you click on local and then select Nevada you can read all about others experiences with Metro, NLV, Henderson and basically any other department in Nevada. My husband took the written test and passed but he was one push up short on the physical so he decided to stick with firefighting.

Bear in mind that while Metro generally hires dozens of new officers a year, the number of applicants is typically 10-15 times the number they hire, and 99% of them are "n good shape and have never been arrested or have done any drugs", so it's not a matter of flying in, skating through a physical exam/test, and signing on the dotted line. As suggested above, you might want to do a little research on the process.

I believe there's quite a push to hire a large amount of officers this year. That being said the statements above hold true.

Thumbs up Becoming a Las Vegas Metro Police Officer

Dan, your question is hard to answer. I am the Sergeant over the Recruiting Section at Las Vegas Metro. It is very challenging to get hired, but we can help you through all of the phases of testing; except your background, because we can't change things in the past which may disqualify you. What I suggest you do is go to our hiring web site which is Protect the City: Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Recruitment Web Site There you will find a ton of information on all the aspects of the testing process. We are hiring approximately 500 police and corrections officers every year. You can also call me at 702-828-4546. Thanks for your interest and good luck ! John

Can't ask for more direct info than that, now can we? Welcome to the site John, and thanks for the info.

Also look at contacting North Las Vegas P.D. and Henderson P.D. as well. There's a chance you can get tested right away as an outside applicant. If you're serious about being a cop then you need to apply to as many departments as you can, don't make the mistake that I made 20 years ago and apply at one department.

Default Bad Boyz, Bad Boyz, What'cha gonna do? What'cha gonna do when they come for you?

Seriously, why would one ever want to become a cop in LV???? Haven't you seen the show COPS (in LV)??? Have you ever taken a ride behind the strip and seen what's behind the glitter...it's sad...and crime-ridden. Everyone has metal gates on their windows and doors!

I heard that the Stratosphere (o.k.a., Bob Stupak's 'Vegas World') is hiring for a rendition of The Village People. If things don't go well in your testing, you can always try out for the part of the cop! LOL
