Thanks, Chest, that's a very helpful post. I spent 20 adult years in the Detroit metro, where there are very definate "good" and "bad" areas, and I'm currently in Omaha, where the "high crime" area consists pretty much of a bit of graffiti (I exaggerate a bit, but crime is not much of an issue here, in comparison to just about anywhere).

Certainly, Vegas is no Detroit by any means, not even close, when it comes to crime. But it is hard for a newcomer to have a feel for just how bad the undesirable areas of a city are... especially given my history in the Detroit metro (where there are definately areas you do NOT want to drive through, and places the police won't even patrol after dark).

I greatly appreciate your perspective, that the majority of undesirable areas are just that, lower income & lesser, and that there are rather few truly dangerous areas.

You definately have to know your way around a city to know which streets are good vs. bad in a downtown urban area.

Olecapt, I like your pickup truck test! I'll have to use that. :-)

f you count more than eight pickups think about another neighborhood.
Pickup trucks? Or trash that should be picked up?

If it's the first one, that's hilarious!

Soccer moms do not leave their minivans on the street...always in the garage.

pickup drivers can't get into their garages with the motorcyles, ATVs and boats in the way.

LOL..you just described a neighbor of mine right across the street. He parks in the "guest" lot because of all his junk, motorcycles for his kids and him, atv's and a big old boat.
And he drives a pickup.
