Nice! One of the things I have come to enjoy here is that, although Vegas as a whole functions much more on the level of a big Southwestern city on several demographic fronts, many of the vicinities within operate more like smaller Southwestern towns.

But I guess one of my biggest pet peeves about NYC was transportation:
1) you always have to RUN to catch the subway, deal with the stink, being crushed during rush hour, and delays/reroutes (like someone throwing up in one of the subway cars and they would have to evacuate ALL cars and make you wait 15-20min for the next train)
2) 1-2 parking violations a month ($75 each).

I swear though, the subway is enough to make someone stressed out at the end of the day.

Biggest stressful thing about Vegas: the heat during summer. But I can always choose to go out after sunset. Can't do that during the winter in NYC.
I agree with everything you say here

It's a nice change from rude, snobby people. People here at my apartment complex actually say "Hi" sometimes If you said "Hi" to someone in your apartment complex in New York City they would think you were some crazy person Lol

Anyway---
Look at how Forbes decides what's "stressful":
The magazine said it evaluated the country's major metropolitan areas on six metrics it believed to be stressors: high unemployment, long work hours, limited access to health care, poor physical health, lack of exercise and long commute times.

My two cents:

1-high unemployment??
I live in Manhattan-just as bad as anywhere else/
2-Long work hours??
I live in Manhattan- and it's common to see people working 70-80 hours a week.
3-Limited access to health care??
I live in Manhattan and am quite sure LV has the same quality health care if you have insurance as any other city. Otherwise--ER time. Vegas DOES HAVE HOSPITALS WITH EMERGENGY ROOMS.
4-poor physical health.
I live in Manhattan and have 50% of my meals DELIVERED because I'm too fat and SPOILED to do otherwise.
5-long commute times??
I live in Manhattan and dont own a car. I get around using the NYC Transit system. It's the only way to get mugged @ 7 am on a crowded train--WHILE PEOPLE SIT AND DO NOTHING.

Eff Forbes- I'm S T I L L MOVING to Vegas in Jan.2011

Well, here we go again. A financial publication making another incorrect conclusion, let's break it down:

1. High unemployment-I'll give them thumbs up We're #1 and of course it didn't go into the U-6 data so yeah Las Vegans are probably more stressed right now.
2. Long work hours-Let's see we have the highest unemployment and it's compounded by those who are UNDEREMPLOYED so how can people be working more hours
3. Limited access to health care-Well since we've been here, my son has cracked his head open, had nearly an episode where he couldn't breathe, my 79-year old mother has had numerous visits to Centennial Hills Hospital to the point that whenever people come to visit and we go out for a ride, she points to it and says to them "there's my hospital". Never once have any of us had any issues getting access to health care. What a flipping joke.
4. Poor physical health-Maybe but no different than any other city. I just lost 3 friends in their 40's just in the last week back in DC, one fell asleep and didn't wake up. So I'm not buying this one either.
5. Long commute times-Laughable I make it from the NW to the airport in 25 minutes every day. Obviously these people who wrote this ridiculous article haven't driven on the Beltway in DC.

I can understand LA being #2, but NYC only 8th?????

Let me put it in perspective, NYC first off in it's "high powered" corporate atmosphere has the longest work hours of any metro. LA is a lot more "laid back"

Then, all those trains and subways make for long commutes even over short distances. 20 years ago from a little bit north of the Bronx I had a 17 mile commute to lower Manhattan. Train plus subway equalled an hour. Then for 15 years I worked about 30 miles DUE NORTH of my same location, away from the City, took 45 minutes to drive. Yes, 13 more miles but 15 less minutes.

Last year I worked a temporary job in Connecticut that was almost FIFTY miles from my home, but with hours earlier than rush (about 7:45-3:45), it took me an hour, sometimes a bit less. Yes, the same amount of time it took me to go 1/3 of that distance when I was going to Manhattan. Nothing like it!

The only thing I can think of that would make Vegas even crack the top 10 is the high unemployment.

Wow, we lived about 8 miles from 57th st and 6th Ave in NYC and it would take us 30 minutes to drive there... on a Sunday at 8:30am!

I was 7 miles from my school and it took me 45minutes on the subway (1 transfer).

... I actually get to see the sky in Vegas, btw. It's not all covered by buildings.

okay I better stop complaining about NYC now... i'm getting stressed just talking about it. g'night everyone, it's movie night at our house. we're going to watch... Cop Out... a comedy about cops in... NYC! LOL.

I hate NYC. Humid, sticky, disgusting. People full of themselves. Bums in the subways panhandling. Public urination.

How many New Yorkers does it take to screw in a lightbulb? Just one; he holds onto the bulb and the world revolves around him.

But if you ask a New Yorker about New York City, he/she will say it's the best place on earth. That's because they don't know any different I'm glad I didn't grow up there and have the same mentality.

NYC is my definition of a nightmarish place to live. Even if Las Vegas gets 50% unemployment, I would still rather live here than there.
