Well, I was only 12 or so when the song came out in the 60s; too young to do any damage to my brain cells. Now, the early to mid 70s are a bit hazy to me....

And in case you didn't know already, the only NM style restaurants we have are three Garduño's. They are in the two Fiestas, and the Palms. I think they tone it down since people around here aren't used to anything but bland, but the carne adovado is sometimes pretty hot.

We do have some good Mexican restaurants, finally. Frank and Fina's Cocina, and three or four Lindo Michoacans. I know there are probably some pretty authentic Mexican restaurants on the east side of town now, but I haven't hung out over there in several years now.

I saw the roasting info on an Albertsons grocery flyer the other day. I need to get myself a sack and a bunch of freezer bags (and gloves - I don't peel them without gloves these days) for sure. Last year we got a sack of medium and they were super mild. Not sure if I want to move up to hot this year just because of last year's disappointment. Medium is perfect for me. I love the smell of the roasting chiles.

I thought there was some burrito place near UNLV that was supposed to be New Mexican. I think I read about it on the LV UNM alumni facebook page but I cannot remember the name right now. (oh its called Carlitos - anyone been there?)

If I get antsy I will hit up Gardunos - my favorite in Albuquerque was always Los Cuates (on Lomas).

We tried Carlito's, and while we were hungry and still eating we decided it was good, but later, after more thought, we decided they would be run out of Albuquerque, and it would be illegal to even mention them in Santa Fe.

My two favorite NM dishes are carne adovado, and chili rellenos. My wife makes both better than most restaurants. My favorite Albuq restaurant is either Sadie's or El Pinto, both on 4th St., depending on my mood. For a good cheap NM meal I even like Little Anita's. I wish we had them here. In fact, just thinking about it, I've got a craving for a carne adovado stuffed sopaipilla. Or, since I aready et, maybe a cinnamon apple stuffed sopaipilla with ice cream???

I heard Garduño's had filed for bankruptcy, but I know they are still in business. I like the one at Fiesta on Rancho, but the servers have no clue when it comes to NM food so aren't much help. At least that's the way it was the last few times we've been there.

I think YesterDave's restaurant, on Montgomery, closed and is now an auto museum. I was hoping they'd open a restaurant here. We need a good diner.

Oh that was the name of it! We would drive past where it used to be and I would point and say "there used to be some oldies restaurant there" but I could not remember it.

Hurricanes was good - also on Lomas near Washington.

Gardunos owed back taxes or something I think and they were financially tanking, but the one by the Winrock Mall did not seem to go anywhere.

I love carne adovada. Esp in a breakfast burrito!
