If I was a tourist staying on the Strip, I'd probably eat on the Strip for convenience. But if I was staying off Strip, I'd eat off Strip. Hard to say because I know where the good off Strip restaurants are, but most tourists don't. Now I know there are some really fantastic restaurants on the Strip, but they are super expensive. Is it worth it? Usually it is when it's a business meal and some company, mine or the salesman's I'm with, is paying for it; but not if I have to pick up the tab. I'll splurge now and then, but I feel guilty about those starving kids in China my dad used to tell me about.

Yes. Last time I ate at the Bellagio buffet it was still gourmet. I can't imagine that Wynn wouldn't even be better since Wynn himself always tries to outdo Kirk Kerkorian.

I am going to be off the strip and mostly eating away from the strip, but I want to go to the strip once and might eat a lunch/dinner at Bellagio or Wynn.

So, everyone agrees that for $35 I could not go to a restaurant in Las Vegas and have a large meal consisting of appetizer, main course, soda/coffee and a fancy dessert that would be better quality than the quality of buffet food at Wynn or Bellagio?

I'm sure you COULD do it, given some inside information. Unfortunately, I'm not the guy to provide it, more insightful/knowledgeable folks wrt Las Vegas would have to help there.

Sure, you'll get better service & presentation somewhere else, but not a lot of places will have better food IMHO. I mean, I enjoyed Binions Ranch Steakhouse (penthouse level, great view at night), but you'd be hard-pressed to get out of there for $35 & there are nicer, more expensive places. (Are we including tip, BTW? I usually leave a couple bucks at the buffet, but would probably be leaving more like 15-20% at a nice restaurant.)

There are probably a few 'gems' the experienced locals could help you find, but again ... Bellagio & Wynn are fantastic choices if you're focusing on quality of food & a nice meal.

I will probably end up trying Wynn since I have been to Bellagio already and people are saying the buffet at Wynn is at least as good as Bellagio.
The rest of my meals during the stay will be in more budget oriented places.

Have you even been to the world buffet? After having to suffer through places like Hiltons gross buffet, Stations so-so buffets, and some really cruddy ones like Gold Strike, Buffalo bills, Palace station, and a few others with minimal if any great salad toppers, the World buffet was really nice. Most places just offer a lot of different meats, and that is one thing I do not eat. At least Rio's buffet had more veg friendly options.

Yeah, but this thread is about Wynn & Bellagio, not Hilton, Stations or other locals casinos. Rio may very well be better than those other middle-of-the-road places, but it is laughable to compare it to Bellagio or Wynn. You started your post asking if Buzz has ever eaten at the World Buffet. I don't even have to ask you if you've ever eaten at Wynn because your post itself is self-evident. There is no way that you could have judged Rio better or even on a par with Wynn if you had eaten there,

I'm sure you have a reason for it, so what are your expectations? There are a lot of other good choices in joints like at Caesars Forum Shops, and Mandalay Bay for instance, or the MGM, and Mirage. Depends on the type of food you want.

Honey, I've been here 46 years, so I've tried them all. There has never been a buffet anywhere like the Bellagio buffet. At least when I used to go there. I imagine it's about the same. And I'd bet that Wynn is even better. I have never liked the Rio buffet that much. It's OK as buffets go, but none of them except Bellagio's (and probably Wynn's) are anything to write home about. You do get a lot of choices at the Rio though, and that's not necessarily a good thing. But the truth is, I hardly ever go to buffets at all any more. Especially since I got so sick at the Rio seafood buffet one time that I was afraid I'd live.
