Does anyone know if they are going to be extending any transit service to the Northwest side of town where all the new developments are?

I'm talking about the area around Blue Diamond rd. and S. Durango Dr. I'm looking at a fewproperties there, but would need public transit to get around in the future.

Calls to Las Vegas Transit (RTC) doesn't get me anything but a "I don't know" and emails to the planning and future projects department have gone unanswered.

Sure there will be buses around, but few and far between. Plus the distance you probably want to cover is long, build a lot of extra time for the ride.

There is a new transit route running on Durango, Route 121.

I just sent a reply to RTC to improve their transit system such as having a light rail system, having a bus route on Hualapai Way and Blue Diamond Road.

Where would you run the light rail system? Do you know how expensive it is to build the infrastructure for something like that?

If memory serves, light rail was proposed many years ago loosely along the route now occupied by the 215 beltway. It was strongly opposed by valley residents who felt that it would decrease their property values and increase crime in their neighborhoods.

Not to mention the taxes needed to pay for it.

They tend to put bus lines where the working poor live. That's not the area. Think long and hard about moving here, especially to the outskirts without access to a car.

Is that the reason why I see so many bus stops in North Las Vegas?

Yes. In the older areas, especially. Not so much in the newer parts of NLV. I do see the Deuce running along Decautur up here in the far north, but that's technically right on the Vegas / NLV border.

The far northwest got lucky because they were selected as a hub for one of the express routes. Ordinarily, those far flung areas wait years to get any kind of comprehensive bus service.

........Snooty master planned developments around town do not want public transportation near their communities, it's part of the reason why public transportation does not expand fast enough in communities near these master planned subdivisions.

my well off coworker told me that she hates living close to public transit because she perceives it brings in a bad crowd.... I honestly believe there's a lot of folks that feel this way. SMH!!
