It doesn't sound like he'd have wages in the base period. Base period in Nevada right now is 2nd & 3rd quarters of '09, and 1st and 2nd quarters of 2010. I believe those dates would be May 31, 2009 through June 26, 2010. He was laid off before that in the 2nd qtr. of 09 which was Mar. 29 thru May 30, 2009. That's when he should have filed. I think Colorado has the same base period as we do, so there should be no wages left in his monetary account to file against.

That's the likely scenario, but the only way to find out is to file the claim. Be sure he does it before end of this quarter which will end on Dec 25th.

Self employment doesn't count. Has he worked for regular wages at all since the lay off? Has he worked in Nevada at all? Anything he may have done that he may have forgotten about? Even one day stuff counts.

If he files a claim and they tell him he is monetarily ineligible, it won't hurt his chances in the future for UI if he does get more work and gets laid off. Tell him to file an Interstate Claim against Colorado. If he has worked here in Nevada too, tell him to ask for a Combined Wage Claim. All they can do is say he's not monetarily eligible, but sometimes the claimant forgets things that a good UI Claims Examiner might find on the computer. It doesn't tell them everything though, so make sure he has his entire work history for the past 15 months.

Would politicians who are voted out qualify for unemployment....or would their inept actions violate your stated requirement that it be "no fault of their own"?

A politician could be eligible for unemployment if while they were in office they also had a regular job and got laid off from it ...a state legislator for instance, as that is sort of a part time position. The elected position wouldn't be covered employment though.

If he is eligible, and if he filed his weekly claim on Sunday as instructed, he should have had the money no later than Tuesday. It would depend a little bit on whether you are receiving a check in the mail, or if you have direct deposit, or if you got a debit card. If paid by check it should have been there Wednesday, but no later than today. Of course, from some of the things you've said about his situation, the first payment might take a day or two longer than usual, and then it would be on a regular schedule.

I dont remember when he filed the claim, but it was a few days ago. I know set up a direct deposit and also received a debit card. We will see.

If he filed on Sunday, or at least by Monday, and it's not in the bank, he'd better call them. He might have answered a question in a way that stopped the claim. In some cases they ask for more info, which takes a while, and in some cases they don't say anything, and he won't know until he calls.
