If you ask dynimage, he will tell you the best way to get rid of gnats is with a double barreled shotgun.
I find that to be a bit extreme though. Do whatever works, and don't shoot up your house.

Careful when moving, bugs find their way in via boxes.

I bought a bunch of new stuff in boxes and a couple roaches just appeared. Unpack those boxes in the garage and inspect stuff!

I would have the place treated for everything a few days before moving in. Then anything that's brought in during the first month will likely be quickly killed by the fresh pesticides.

I might end up moving in summer when it's too hot to hang around the garage unpacking boxes. There is also a small chance I would buy a condo with only a carport.

I've only seen this once here in Las Vegas, but it happened all the time back east. Bugs in the cupboard that eat flour, etc. I called the USDA and they sent me a brochure. They said the bugs come with the flour, so heat flour, cornmeal, etc., in the oven on lowest temp for about 45 - 60 min, or put it in the freezer for several hours. I threw out the infested flour, followed the instructions, and have never had them again.

Very true. The most problems we see are with flour, rice, and bird seed.

In the 8 months that I've lived here, earwigs are the only bugs we've found in our house. And most of those were dead or dying.

I find earwigs all the time, but they don't hurt anything. We get spiders but I think they are eating dust mites so they're doing me a service. I still don't like them in the house though. I whacked a bunch of black widders last year on the patio and in the garden, and this year I haven't seen any. They're probably there but they hide when they see me coming now that they know I'll snuff them on sight.

I was in Las Vegas several years ago and while walking up to the registers in a local drug store chain. I saw this HUGE bug just walking down the isle. It was about a foot long with long legs and was brown. I started walking up to it thinking it was a remote controlled toy! A male employee, with a wad of paper towels, came over and picked it up to remove it from the store. That's when I freaked out!!! Can anyone tell me what that thing was???

I admit that for me one of the other "hidden" best things about living in a condo is NO BUGS. I really, really hate bugs, I'm sorry that sounds wussy, haha, but spiders just creep me the heck out and cockroaches are the most disgusting, vile things on the face of the planet. At least I can tolerate spiders outside in their natural habitat, that's fine, just stay outside, but roaches don't belong anywhere. They are disgusting.

I've lived in my condo in L.A. now for 4 years and had no spiders whatsoever. You never get bugs of any kind in a well built condo because with steel and concrete architecture, there's simply no way in. Maybe if you left your window open all of the time or something, but my window remains always shut unless I'm at it.

I've been seeing an increase in baby roaches finding their way in my apartment lately with the warm weather.
