We were at the Borgata in Atlantic City last week and we noticed the slots were alot tighter than on previous vistis. Shortly after we left, we read that 400 employees were laid off (the first layoff in the 5 year history of the hotel). Seems the bad economy is badly affecting AC. I guess one of the ways casinos are trying to gain more revenue is to give fewer returns on the slots but still within the legal limit. Borgata advertised the loosest slots in 2007, not any more I guess.

Has anyone noticed the same happening in Las Vegas. We are booked for the New Year's holiday but are having second thoughts if the slots are as tight as AC. Seems the casinos will drive away more business if there is a noticeable lack of returns. Kind of kills the fun of playing.

You expect to win when you go to the casino?

I thought slots were completely random so there is no such thing as loose or tight slot. There are configurations inside that are constantly changing every second and if you happen to push the button (or pull the lever) when it lines up then you win. Pure dumb luck.

Yes, the slots are horrible tight in LV, in Detroit and in Windsor now. Like put a $100 in a dollar machine and possibly get one cherry. Play blackjack and with the endless shuffle now, in addition to the odds they always had of the dealer playing his hand last, you can rent a seat at the table for $300 for about 5 minutes. Twenty dollar minimum bet in most cases.

Oh, I see. Would they really tighten them up because the economy is bad?

I think there is a regulation that the slots have to pay out a certain amount in a given amount of usage. So they have to give at least that much. I think as long as they meet that they can either tighten them or loosen them.

I do believe that if they claim that they pay off 99.9% then they have to.

Now, whether they follow that or not-who knows.

Yeah, I think I remember reading that most casino's (especially strip ones) don't disclose their pay off. Guess that leaves them room to do whatever they want, within the law of course....

Like I always tell my wife, the easiest way to earn $50 in a casino is to not put it on the table at all.
