can some kind souls please clarify what the job market in Las Vegas is like now?

I would expect that with all the casinos, there should be jobs available?

Haha clarify what its like to be in a job market with nearly 15% unemployment???

Are you a nurse or a doctor? If not you'd probably find it a difficult market for job hunters.

Don't believe all the chronic malcontents who say the local economy is bad.

There are "help wanted" signs everywhere -- starting wages for an 18 year old with no education, no skills, no talent and no luck is over $250,000 per year. They hand out free new BMWs on every corner.

Its cheap to live here - you can get a 2000 square foot apartment for $20 per month.

Gasoline is only 12 cents per gallon.

Did you know that everyone in Nevada is exempt from paying federal income taxes?

Whoops... I just woke up from my daydream.

Lol Sporty.

It's amazing sad and yet uplifting to me that so many people still want to come to this town.

One thing I have noticed that the people who successfully move here nearly always have a job that they can do anywhere, as in a home business that does not rely on location. The other group of succesfull transplants are transferred by their company. Otherwise, forget about it. Of course there are exceptions, but they are not the general rule.

Maybe this will give you and idea of how the job market is out here, even attorney's can't find work or are being laid off.
This article is an eye opener just how hard it is to find job fresh out of college. It also gives a very insightful look at what employers want to hear in order to get hired,no matter what type of job your looking for.

Job chances are few for law grads, out-of-work lawyers

Sort of like showing up late to the party.

Why does everyone think there are jobs here?

Before I moved into this house I had a new neighbor at my apartment who had brought his whole family up from Phoenix to look for work. You can guess how that went. When I told him that Vegas was just as bad or worse than Phoenix he acted like I was full of it. He got evicted a few months later when he could not pay his rent.

It amazes me how some people have such a transient mind set to just move to a new place like that. I mean relocating is one thing but so many people move and really never have any intentions of rooting in. That guy clearly never did any research. Just a whim.

With the bad economy I'd think it would be best to hunker down and stay where you are. Using the network of family and friends to get by and helping them get by.

I also think moving somewhere just for work is sort of shallow. I mean I understand people need to make money I also understand that we have an entire clandestine population of undocumenteds that do just that.

Do they know there really is no work and just want to try anyhow? Does Detroit have the same issue?

The outsider would not know that Las Vegas is actually a small town. It's small in that the people who really live here and stay here are few. Within this circle most of us know each other or have a common aqcuintence.

This town is full of free loaders who got by when anyone could get a job. Seems people still have that mentality.

This probably sounds pretty harsh, mean or negative but there is some truth. What makes me feel bad is that the gaming industry is harsh. Someone could have been doing pretty well just a few years ago and they think they will be back on top when the town picks up. Those Casinos don't care about history though, thats why the Landmark is not here anymore. They want what is new and hot. They will import some young thing from the east coast before they hire these worn out people again.

With construction jobs there are plenty of those currently but nothing like the amount of them five years ago. They would have hired a guy in clown suit to work back than. It's not going to come back at that level again for a while.
