I was driving on the freeway (215 West toward I-15) tonight and saw an unmarked police vehicle with blue/red lights flashing. It got me thinking about the unmarked police vehicle. How do we know if it is a real policeman? Do we have the right to ask the policeman for an I.D. because h/she have unmarked police vehicle? Anyone could buy siren, blue/red flashing lights, fake police uniforms and could kill/injury innocent people.

Anyone can make a fake ID or badge, too...

Saw an unmarked car on the strip on new years eve - it was a KIA, IIRC.

Yes you have the right to see ID. There have been countless cases of people impersonating officers. I've heard of some people going so far as to call 911 to verify the officer as they're getting pulled over.

Then you should have just kept driving...and claimed you never heard the siren.

lol. I can pretend that I didn't see the siren lights.

Seriously I am deaf. If the unmarked police vehicle wants me to pull over, what should I do? Write a note and request for an I.D.?

hmmm...tough situation. If there happens to be a police station nearby, I guess you could pull into there and have him follow. If not, perhaps if you kept driving (within speed limit) he'd call for a marked car backup?

Now that it's past, maybe contact them to ask what the proper protocol is. Please let us know.

I've been seeing more of those unmarked cars of different types pulling people over on the roads and the freeway. Some are pickup trucks, some are SUV's and one was a van.

I believe Miami, in particular, had an immense problem with that in the past.
