I am coming to Las Vegas in a week and staying for 3 weeks in search of a new job. Does anyone, of local knowledge, know which Casino/Hotels have a true human resources department? I am exhausted after completing online applications and I am really hoping there are still some places in town that "do it the old fashioned way." I would love to be able to walk up and present myself and resume`and just get in front of someone instead of being another anonymous online applicant.

And please.... no need to tell me how difficult the local job market is. I am aware of the statistics and only making this trip to satisfy my mind that I gave it a try at getting a job that I really want to be a part of.

Any positive, helpful comments are much appreciated.

You might find a live HR Department in some of the smaller properties. I was still working with a few when I left JobConnect, but one, The Frontier, has been "blowed up", and others you probably wouldn't want to work at anyway. Though it is pretty common these days to do everything on line. The reason for that is they get thousands of applicants and it would be impossible to talk to everyone. So the computer screens you for what they're looking for before they'll interview you. Unless you have "juice" it's not likely you'll be able to just walk in and see someone. That's even true of grocery stores, etc.

The only way I know of to meet someone ahead of time is to attend Job Fairs.

Does anyone know if there's an App for sending out resumes, or a program for filling out applications for you? The apps are all pretty standard.

I would also imagine that they only hold resumes in their computers for a certain length of time, so that you would just have to keep putting it back in. It's a numbers game, not a "personal" (or personnel?) game these days. (I hate the term "Human Resource"─ too dehumanizing.

I just reread your post. They are all "true" HR departments, they are just too big to let people walk in off the street.

I just Googled Feb 2011 Job Fairs in Las Vegas for you: Google

If I were you I'd also contact the Nevada Department of Training, Employment, and Rehabilitation ─ DETR ─ and ask about Nevada JobConnect (yes Job & Connect are connected too). Nevada JobConnect - A statewide network that connects business with employees

They'll also be able to tell you about the CEP

Employment Security Career Enhancement Program for Jobseekers

but you are supposed to be a Nevada Resident for that ...which you can be after a couple of hours at the DMV for a driver license or state ID.

JobConnect can tell you about upcoming Job Fairs, and it is also wise to hit the Temp Agencies. You might be surprised at how many permanent jobs are obtained through Temp Agencies here.

There are employment centers for the duopoly in Vegas check their physical address online. Properties in Dowtown Vegas still have their Human Resources so you should be able to walk in and turn in your resume.
