Good afternoon all, I'm a frequent reader, infrequent poster. My spouse and I are planning on relocating to the Las Vegas area in the next couple of months.

The main reason we're locating is my spouse suffers from severe psoriatic arthritis and we're hoping the drier weather offers some relief, the Florida humidity is just too much. Our employer is going to allow us both to work from home.

We're trying to decide on which parts of town to focus on. Since commuting won't be an issue, we are willing to live on the outskirts of town. My wish list includes a neighborhood with good shopping and restaurants, near outdoor activities, such as hiking, and obviously a safe and clean area. I immediately think of the Summerlin area, but that's mostly because it's an area I've visited. I'd like to research more on the areas I don't know much about. Can anyone recommend other areas to look into? I'd like to do my research now have a list narrowed down for when we visit in May.

We're 25 and 38, no children, one dog. We're hoping to find a single family home to rent in the $1,000 to $1,200 range.

Thank you in advance for your responses!

I've always been fond of many parts of Henderson. The atmosphere seems a bit more civil. I found Summerlin to be a little pretentious and fake for my taste.

Yup, I live in CH. Fits your description and price-point pretty well.

Centennial Hills is ok, but you need a car, depending on where you live in the area.

If commuting were not a problem, I would choose Vermont.

People are going to call me nuts but CH is a slightly higher elevation with slightly cooler temps and slightly more humidity. Don't get me wrong, this is hardly the everglades.

Try south.

The OP's question opens a world of possibilities. Probably anywhere tropical would do, but I think I'll copy MediocreButArrogant a bit and choose Kauai. Mainly just to stay in the US, but still get the climate and beach.
