I am sick of hearing the gov't saying "cut this, this, this". Why can't they find a way to make money? They're too lazy.

In before thread is moved from the LV forum because:

1. it has nothing to do specifically with LV; and,

2. it is idiotic.

I don't remember ever learning this in Civics class, but how does a government make money other than through taxes?

I guess you are speaking of the State Gov't? or City? If want them to make more revenue so they do not "cut" is to raise fees and taxes. A lot of people are not for raising anything since everything is already very high. Maybe they can find creative ways to make more revenue?

Legalize Prostitution & weed. Lower drinking & gambling age to 18 from 21.

A lot more tourists + more taxable industries.

It is because of decreased revenue from taxes due to the recession. I have no problem with the cuts. Since you do, why don't you do the right thing and donate some of your money to help the city out instead of complaining about it.

This is kind of an amazing statement. It essentially acknowledges government inefficiency yet in the same statement implies that taxes should be raised. I'm at a loss here...

I'll tell you exactly what it is. People move to LV from some other place where they pay higher taxes. Then they say why don't I get the same service I got from elsewhere, but at the lower taxes I thought I was getting. Then the mess begins.

Its just something you'll get used to. People move from a place where they paid three times as much as they do in Nevada for property tax and then turn around and tell you in any event their new taxes are too high. They'll complain about paying a higher sales tax while acting like no state income tax is a newfound right. Its hilarious, once they are done with the tax complaints they call government inefficient and full of lazy people. Sure there are inefficiencies, they exist EVERYWHERE including private industry, but its just good local sport to claim you are overtaxed in Las Vegas and any public employee is just an overpaid lazy bum. This all despite by almost any measure the cost of local and state government is fairly competitive to other states and cities.

It won't get any better either. The state used to have the magic of all the gaming taxes and hotel taxes and a lot less people. The rate of population growth far exceeded the rate of gaming tax growth and you end up with fiscal issues. Pretty simple math, but to the average guy who just wants to complain about taxes and government no matter what, math doesn't matter.

State lottery and multi-state lotteries have been known to raise money for their sponsoring state.
