A friend who teaches in the school system here in Vegas told me that as of next year, schools will no longer be subject to class size reduction, due to budget cuts. They are going to cram as many kids into each classroom as the fire code will allow.

Has anyone else heard of this happening?

It has been covered in the local news constantly since the economic crash began in 2008, was the #1 topic for almost two years after the gubanatorial election got underway, and now that the legislature has been in session since the first of Feb, it has been the number one news story 1000 times daily in Nevada, with almost nightly TV programs totally dedicated to it.

But, no, we haven't heard anything. Let us know if you do.

It's all the rage these days!!! Everyone is doing it!! It's bigger than the hula hoop!!
Our Republican friends claim there is absolutely no connection between class size and student achievement. In every state the push is to balance budgets by laying off those "overpaid, useless, lazy" teachers.
You can bet that if it is at all possible they will do their best to push class sizes as high as they can. The more kids in a class, the fewer teachers you need, the lower the payroll. Who cares if there are 40 or 50 kids in a classroom?!?
That leaves more money for the oil companies, banks, and Wall Street to suck up.

So, yeah, may have heard a rumor or two.

Who needs desks anyway? make them stand single file in the classroom and write on the backs of the child in front of them. We can fit at least 2-3x as many kids in that way. Now that's efficiency.
