My husband and I want to move away from Utah and Las Vegas seems like the most practical choice. Both our families live in Utah but with my parents having a home in St. George and lots of family members visiting Vegas very often so we'd see them more living there than anywhere else. Close enough but far enough away
Anyway, I was wondering if anyone had any advise on good areas in Las Vegas to raise a young family. We have 3 kids 3 and under. Commute and work isn't an issue because my husband has a couple of lucrative businesses that he can operate from anywhere in the country. We're just looking for a nice family friendly area with good schools.
Also, we're not sure if we should rent for a little while or just jump in and buy.
Any constructive input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!
-kjane

Be sure to disregard the NUMEROUS previous discussions on this topic . . because those postings could not possibly be relevant since you were not interested at that time.

Sigh. Regulars always seem to overestimate the efficiency of the search function on City Data. Just because you've seen the threads as they've come up and are aware of how many times it has been discussed, does NOT mean it's easy for a newbie to find.

I've been here a few years, and I've gotten pretty good at the search function, but I well remember being new here and getting very unhelpful answers about asking something that had already been asked a few times, just because that person was tired of talking about it.

A more helpful response would have been to find the threads yourself (You know, the NUMEROUS ones that are so easy to locate) and post a link for our new friend, rather than assuming he/she is purposely being annoying by asking a question that you have already seen.

Oh my word chill out people. I see nothing wrong with starting a thread specific to a certain situation. Sometimes those threads are long, ancient or not current and up to date.

OP- I have a family and I love living in Las Vegas. I recommend Centennial Hills, or Summerlin. I think kids get a great education at the elementary school level. I lived in Washington State for a year, where they have top notch schools, and at the elementary school level it is pretty much the same. It may vary depending upon the teacher, but over all it has been great.

Now...when you move into middle school and high school- that's where you start seeing problems. "Mostly" because of the many students who go to school without any support at home. Teachers can't teach when they have to constantly deal with kids who are not learning anything, or have discipline problems.

I highly recommend checking out the magnet programs after elementary school.

P.S. I agree with renting for a year before buying.

I was stationed in Utah for 2 years before being moved to Vegas. I can easily say that Vegas is the place to be. I was miserable in Utah.... :-(
