Anyone heard much about what went on there and if similar problems exist with other HOAs?
I wonder how many people on the board had to be in on it or if the treasurer really did it all secretly?
Isn't he also the developer for Sky condos?

One article about it is here (http://www.ktnv.com/story/14407452/homeowners-speak-out-after-paradise-spa-hoa-raided-by-state-federal-authorities - broken link).

Sounds like Aaron Yashoafar got two insurance checks worth almost a million and failed to rebuild the two burned buildings.

Also, "Residents say, in addition to keeping the insurance money, he also hasn't been paying HOA dues on the more than 200 units his companies own."

I've never heard of a better reason to have an independent property management company oversee an HOA.

Can't say I'm even slightly surprised.

This is not a normal situation. This guy owns 288 units in Paradise Spa. I expect that gives him control of the HOA. So he is not paying for his units and stealing money from the Association when he gets the chance. One would hope that his creditors take him out of the picture...but that may not happen here. Those units may have such a large down side that no one wants to get near them. You can get in to the slum situation where the creditors refuse to foreclose.

There was nobody on the board but our boy and his employees. Nobody. He was the property manager.

Unless he decided to turn himself in...there was nobody else.

And no it was not legal. So what? It still was...

Ifg you want to continue take it private. I would like to let the OP get back to the condo...
Wow, pretty rude and the video in this news story from when it first hit the news contradicts what you said about "nobody" being on the board.

HOA Neighbors Say Insurance Money Missing - Las Vegas News Story - KVVU Las Vegas

The embezzler was the treasurer and the HOA President says he just doesn't know what happened to the check because he never saw it.
So, then the President is not on the board and is an employee of the treasurer then.

This reminds me of when I first came to this board and people were arguing with me about Sky Pointe condos having rental restrictions despite all the evidence showing the opposite.

The Pres is a commercial RE Agent apparently working for our boy.

As I told you the complex is pretty well controlled by our boy.

Check the resident web site. At the moment the complex is without insurance as a majority of the units are not paying their dues. Guess who owns the units.

It is not a normal HOA situation. In fact one of the people apparently pushing to get this resolved is CAI - the famous hobgoblin of all homeowners in an HOA.
