Hi,

I am a single, African American professional (work for the fed govt.) female looking for a change of venue. I currently live in Virginia Beach (went to college in the Hampton Roads area) But I am looking for a change, I've heard that Las Vegas is a great place. But I would love to get some feedback from residents about what it is really like there.

I am looking to move in March 2012 and will be renting the first couple of months, not looking to pay more than 700-800 a month for apt. What are some great neighborhoods?

Quick Background

Orginally from NYC, but lived in Va for last 10 years, bored here, no real nightlife, major sports teams,(How is Las Vegas)?

How is the job market for fed employ, state gov work, or non-profit?

What is the social scene really like, any good indications for single women looking to settle down in the next few years?

How is the cultural set-up as far as neighborhoods, salons, civic/cultural events, (i.e. Sorority,Urban League, political commitees)?

Any helpful and positive feedback would be great

Move to Atlanta. There you might be able to get a job. Vegas, not so much.

I agree. ATLANTA is for you. I grew up there
There is NO culture here in Vegas. NO sports team.

And good luck trying to settle down out here in a few years.

Is there some reason you can't work in the Private Sector?

Ms. Hampton, if I was you I would stay on the east coast-maybe you should look into to DMV( DC & maryland area). Texas area is nice as well- Vegas is more of a service state -basically having degrees means nothing unless you are in the healthcare field. Not to be mean it's hard to get a gov't job here unless you are in the system for years and looking to transfer. So maybe look in an agency that has offices in vegas and transfer. (i met someone where it took them 10 years just to finally get a transfer to this area). Rent is reasonable, Sorority scene having seen any yet-im sure there are some out here- maybe you check with your national chapter website and email director. Yes the social scene is nice a lot of partying which is fine when you are young, but after awhile it gets old. Dating scene is "maybe" just depends on what you like. As for me I have met lots of guys in my short time here, sad part most are just looking for FWB or someone to do weird stuff with. (Being the women that I am,I tell them to call a hooker because I can't help you). All and just research & visit and then you will see.)As for settling down- find a country boy.

Alt is ok- as well but as we all know there's a lot of DL men. Which is why i didn't move there.
