This post is wonderful. I just picked up my MIL's cousin from Providence airport yesterday and she's from Vegas. She makes me want to move there - and then I read this thread and I really want to move there.

I'm an HR professional with a hubby and a 7 year old child and this thread has really really made me want to pack up and go. Thank you all!!!

Reminds me of an old joke (but based on a true event)...who has sex in Mass?

Spoiler
Just about every single Boston Roman Catholic priest.

Well, you're in luck. We just happen to have a couple of openings for new residents.

BTW: Locals do go to casinos, but we also know where there are better, cheaper, restaurants all over town. I'd love to see some stats on how often locals actually go to casinos, especially to eat. Usually, for us, it is to see a movie, then maybe, for convenience, we'll get something to eat before or after in one of the casino restaurants. We hardly ever go to the Strip to eat unless we are giving a tour, or seeing an occasional show.

What is the number? Maybe 30% of local working people work in the service industry? I've always had the impression that the locals that do hang out in hotels probably work in one, are mostly single (or they fool around), and they probably smoke, drink and gamble too much.

In the 1960's and 70's it was about all we had to do here at night, so you'd always run into friends in some joint. Now that's no longer true. The Mob is gone, so nothing is cheap anymore. Tourists, and business persons on company expense accounts, are used to paying high prices elsewhere, so the "new" Las Vegas owners charge New York prices. I don't think locals can afford it anymore except as a treat now and then. Plus, it's a lot of trouble to go to the Strip or downtown. Even locals' casinos require a lot of walking to get anywhere.

I used to love shopping in Providence. I used to take the bus and spend the day.

Just pullin' your chain. I'm not as old as you are.

You know, there was guy in my home town that was so into James Dean that he dressed like him, and actually moved to Hollywood, and later was killed in a car crash on the 101.

My friend is from Boston who moved here many years ago. Everything you mentioned on your post I have heard from my friend quite a few times and still hear the same to this day. My friend never regretted the move so I wish you the same!

Goodluck and by the way, I love Boston, it's like the San Francisco of the East Coast. Nice city!!

Depending where you live on the Cape, you may be extremely disappointed in the schools in Nevada. Massachusetts has one of the best public educational systems in the country. However, if you work with your child at home, in addition to their attending school, you should do fine. Quite honestly, while I do miss the lush summer foliage and the month of October in New England, it is not enough to make me want to go back and leave this area. At some point in everyone's life they should experience the almost daily sunshine, ever changing landscapes, and the fabulous scenic vistas in Nevada (and nearby Utah) over an extended period of time.
