Hello,

My fiancé just took a job in LV so we are moving from Redondo Beach. He starts end of June but I will need to stay here until our lease is up in July. I have a 6 year old son who is very hyperactive and want to find a good school and area that is safe where we can go for walks or out for sports activities.

I'm not sure what to expect there. I am an artist and will be working from home. Any advice on neighborhoods, schools and lifestyle would be great. I am leaving all my family support and friends and hope I learn to like it there for at least two years. We would like to rent and are wanting a pool. I've been told simmering is the best area but how is NW and SW areas? Henderson is too far.

Thank you

Yes, "Simmering" is great. I highly recommend it over "Mesquite."

If you live in Vegas I'm sure you realize my spell check changed Summerlin to simmering. This being the case is it not plausible for someone to comment something helpful?

Give it a couple days to get the posts/info you want. Don't take the above posts serious, this site along with any advice is free and you got to expect people to also have a little fun around here.

Hi, we too are moving to LV this summer. We live in S. OC right now and hv been there several times looking at homes. Summerlin is too far for us...we've settled on looking in the Spring Valley area. Our kids are grown, so I have no idea abt schools, other than what I hear, which isn't great. Spring Valley is mostly an older section, from what I can tell, but very centrally located...easy access to 215 & shopping. Good luck with your search. For us....we just can't deal w/ the cost of living out here anymore!!!!

Too far from what? It's too far if you live in Henderson and work in the NW part of town, and drive a gas guzzler. But nothing can really be said to be "too far" in Las Vegas.

Again, too far from what? It's all one big happy city called the Las Vegas Valley.

But, yes, "Simmering" (), the NW, and the SW are the best areas. Although Henderson has areas that are just as good. I do not like North Las Vegas, although I wouldn't rule out living in Aliante if I found a better deal there.

I grew up in Spring Valley and would not say it has easier access than does summerlin. Summerling is superior as far as access goes.

Las Vegas is not OC, so even though summerlin is on the outskirts so to speak, it's not far out.

Sorry, but Spring Valley is getting a little long in the tooth, and in Las Vegas that can make for a bad investment, because once a neighborhood in this town starts to show it's age, it can go down hill very fast. Of course, since most homes in Las Vegas are now worth less than the replacement cost, nothing seems like a very good investment.
