It used to be for the life of the receiver...but people would upgrade to better receivers as they developed. I believe the lifetime is now transferrable to up to 3 different receivers (i.e., shut down signal to the old and transmit to the new) to cover replacements due to upgrading, damage or stolen receivers. My next car will have it built in... so I'll have to transfer then.

The beauty about Sirius is that there are about 150 other channels, besides Howard (my wife hates him, too.) They also broadcast EVERY football game of the NFL season on various channels.

Check out their site for info. I promise you...you will not be disappointed and it will change your listening habits forever, as you will never go back to regular radio. It's like the difference between cable TV and the old antenna on the house!

I spent 32 years in broadcasting...cable and sat TV were our enemies.
Do they have collge football? I'd like to get the WVU games when I'm out driving around. If the two of us are in the car we never listen to radio anyway. I only listen when I'm alone. With a zillion cable channels though I still only watch five or six so I don't really need 150 choices to confuse me even more than I am now.

Buzz, not sure about what colleges are with what company (XM or Sirius) but I believe there are some conferences on each provider. I chose XM because I love baseball and now I can get my fix all year long if nothing else is on. Having so many choices is cool at first, but for me and some others I know there are about twenty or so channels that I keep coming back to. It's a great source of news too. Just not local, but local radio was terrible for local news anyway. If all goes as planned, XM and Siruis will merge, leaving us with fewer competitors, but supposedly we the consumer will be able to build our own radio package, much like cable. Hopefully it won't be as expensive as cable though.

buzz...ack's right...you'll catch some college games, but not like the NFL where you get EVERY game. I agree with him about the channels, too. I have a handful I listen to and set them on pre-set channels on band C...my wife has her easy-listening all set on band A. NPR, CNN, CNBC also have feeds to sirius.

Like I said, you'll never go back...right, ack?

I invested $500 on a lifetime subsciption on Sirius. The best money i've spent.. i dont even tune to regular FM anymore. I do listen to local AM news for local and traffic news. Sirius has CNN and Fox news that is also very good. And lots of choices for comercial free listening.

That is a good question. I am from Ohio and was spoiled there, although I think the variety of stations in my area were a bit sparse. Vegas radio disgusted me from day one with the foul-mouthed DJs and immature sexual innuendos at every turn. Having a child also made me turn off the radio whenever he was in the car. Now I listen to satellite radio, internet radio, CDs and my iPod. I'll listen to NPR on the airwaves but that's about it.

I listen to Mix 94.1.

The morning DJs during the week are fun to listen to, and the music is mostly modern rock. I think there's also a classic rock hour at noon.

It's the one stations both youth and adults tend to like, so it's a popular car choice.

Good luck.

Go to the library and ask if they have the most recent radio ratings books. I've been out of it for a while and I think I heard that only Nielsen does TV and Arbitron does only radio now. That may have changed though. TV ratings are done quarterly and I think radio is once a year...maybe twice. Anyway, look at who is listening to which stations. It takes some experience to read those books and make sense out of them but you should be able to make it out. The numbers are broken down into demographics. So let's say you are 18 to 49 and female. You'll be able to see which stations are most popular for your demographic group. Doesn't mean you'll like them, but it gives you an idea.
